Many of the lamps on our boats are not just a source of light but a piece of art. Crafted from recycled glass, these lamps begin their journey in a small Cairo workshop. There, the glass is melted down and reshaped by a talented woman who specializes in breathing new life into old materials. Once the basic form is created, it’s passed on to other women who work in a cottage industry-style network, finishing the design and decoration with their own hands. The result is a lamp that glows not only with light, but with story and soul, a tangible example of sustainable, women-powered craftsmanship.
Stitched with Story: Embroidery Across Egypt
Our pillowcases and duvet covers are another example of how women contribute their artistry to the dahabiya experience. In Cairo, we work with a gifted woman who creates beautifully detailed embroidery on cotton and linen fabrics. Using specialized sewing machines, she transforms everyday textiles into unique items that feel at once refined and deeply personal.
In addition to machine embroidery, we also feature entirely handmade pieces that originate from a remarkable initiative in Luxor called Our Place. This community project teaches local women specific types of embroidery, empowering them with a skill they can turn into an income. The pieces they create for us, from pillowcases to duvet covers, bring not only beauty but also the quiet strength of a shared purpose. Each stitch tells the story of a woman learning, growing, and providing for her family.
From the Oven: Fresh Bread, Cheese, and Cakes Made with Care
No sail is complete without the comforting aroma of fresh bread or the delight of a homemade dessert. For that, we turn to a woman in our local community who bakes for each of our journeys. She prepares warm loaves by hand, crafts small batches of fresh mozzarella, and surprises our guests with homemade cakes that change with the seasons.
Her baking brings a nourishing, homemade touch to each meal. What she provides is far more than food, it’s the warmth of hospitality, shared through flavor and tradition. It’s one of the many ways women help us deliver not just comfort, but genuine care on every cruise.

In Laqalta, our home village, we entrust the laundry to a local woman who ensures that everything from towels to table linens is spotlessly fresh. It’s a behind-the-scenes task, but one that has a major impact on the comfort of our guests, and it’s done with care and pride.
Guiding with Grace: Female Tour Guides
We are also proud to work with a number of female tour guides who enrich our guests’ experience with knowledge, warmth, and professionalism. Many of them are based in Luxor and prefer day tours, balancing their guiding work with their family responsibilities. One of our German-speaking guides, whose children are now grown, even joins our dahabiya cruises, a rare and special presence onboard. These women serve as role models, not only guiding travelers through Egypt’s ancient wonders but also carving out space for themselves in a traditionally male-dominated profession.
A Creative Eye: Women in Art and Tech
Beyond craft and guiding, women also contribute to the visual and digital elements of our business. We hang paintings on board by several women, ranging from an amateur painter with a flair for capturing atmosphere, to a professional artist whose work brings depth and character to any space. Their art adds layers of story to the boat itself, making each room not just a place to stay, but a space to feel and reflect.
Behind the scenes, we also rely on the technical support from women who help keep our digital operations running smoothly. Whether it’s managing bookings or solving tech challenges, their quiet expertise ensures that everything behind the scenes runs just as beautifully as what our guests see on board.
